Cherry Balls
(Modified Rum Balls)
Homemade recipe passed down from
my mom, Agnes Mae Couvillon LeBlanc
- this may be a recipe from an old book -
3 cups rolled vanilla wafers (brand Nilla Wafers)
1 cup powdered sugar
1 ½ cup finely chopped nuts (pecans are what we used but any
kind will do)
1 ½ Tbsp unsweetened powdered cocoa (we used Hershey’s
baking cocoa)
2 Tbsp white Karo corn syrup
½ cup Maraschino cherry syrup
Lay out a large square of wax paper and cover with powdered
sugar.
Mix ingredients thoroughly in a mixing bowl and form into
balls by rolling around in the palm of your hand. They should be about the size
of a half dollar (1 ½ inches). If the mixture is too soft or sticky, you can
put the bowl into the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.
Roll in powdered sugar and place on clean wax paper.
Freezes well.
Works great in gift tins lined in wax paper.
